R&V Sustainability & Environmental Commitment
At R&V we massively believe in doing everything we can to help the planet and are continuously looking into new ways to reduce our carbon footprint throughout our day-to-day operations!
Transportation
When delivering orders we work with the brilliant Manchester-based company, Xen Couriers, who mainly use cycle-trailers (or cargo bikes) as their transport method.
Our amazing staff all walk or use public transport to get to our shop (when not working remotely).
Our Sustainability Journey
Local Food Sourcing
We use ethically sourced and seasonal produce from wonderful local suppliers in our dishes when possible. These include the amazing La Chouquette in Didsbury for our bread and pastries, Silver Apple Bakery in Stockport supply us with their beautiful cakes, our incredible meat is delivered by The Unsworth brothers in Salford, and most of our veggies are grown by the Halman family at Woodland Farm (Cheshire). Choosing these amazing local companies reduces transportation and puts money back into our local economy.
Our suppliers all ensure that their produce has been obtained by livestock owners abiding by animal welfare practices.
Packaging
No Plastic Policy
We have a no plastic policy when it comes to packaging! Only fully compostable cardboard is used to carry our food or Bagasse bowls (sugarcane pulp) for our salads and more.
Plant-Based Materials
Our disposable cutlery, mini bowls, and platters are made from bamboo or palm leaf, although we opt for reusable alternatives where possible.
We use Enviropack and Planglow for the above packaging. We chose these as they strive to influence the use of sustainable products and the reduction of waste. All their packaging is made from sustainable, plant-based materials in place of oil derived plastics.
Sustainable Events
At R&V we also have a range of crockery, cutlery, and glassware that you can hire for your event to prevent using single-use items.
Other ways we help
Food Wastage
Any leftover food from our work in the shop is dropped off each day at the UCKG HelpCentre (across the road from us on Oxford Street). Also, when event catering we try and distribute any leftovers as much as possible to local food banks or even our catering staff!
Paperless
We are continuously reducing the amount of paper used; for example, all invoicing is electronic, and our bills are also sent via email.
